Spring is here at least and we are all busy with our spring cleaning.
Many of us are focused on our annual purging – on clearing out our homes of unwanted and unnecessary stuff as we also rid ourselves of chametz before the chag.
Last week we spoke about using this time period as an opportunity to clean out your body and create an avenue for vibrant health to express itself.
This week I want to dive deeper, beyond just the body, and discuss the importance of cleaning out your heart and mind.
You might ask – when discussing physical health why would I write about the need to focus on thoughts, attitudes, and the feelings they create?!
Well your thoughts are an important part of your physical health – they can actually help create physical health and unfortunately they can sometimes be a barrier to vibrant health.
Our thoughts give rise to emotions – and emotions are expressed in our bodies as chemicals (and vibrations) . Happy, positive thoughts lead to the creation and release of feel-good chemicals and negative thoughts can lead to – well the opposite.
These feel good chemicals – expressed as hormones and neurotransmitters – enter into every cell in your body so a happy positive thought can really make you feel good and a negative one can create a cascade of stress hormones and a reduction in feel-good chemicals.
But it doesn’t end there. These hormones and neurotransmitters have a direct impact on your immune system. In the field of psychoneuroimmunology researchers study the effect of negative feelings on our immune system: stress, anger, loneliness, negativity can all lead to a compromised immune system and to various illnesses.
On the other hand positivity, joy, and a feeling of connection can do the opposite and help regulate and strengthen your immune system making you more physically resilient and less prone to illness.
These positive feelings are an essential part of creating vibrant health.
One could say that through attention to thoughts, attitudes and feelings we can create psychosomatic wellness!
The burning question is – how do we do that?
How can we change, revise, and improve our thoughts?
That is the million-dollar question and there isn’t one easy answer.
In fact – there are many ways to work on thoughts and feelings. Many avenues to clearing the mind and the heart.
Stay tuned for my next blog where I will share with you my 3 favorite techniques for releasing negativity and bringing joy and positivity into your mind , heart and then directly into your body.
