How to Balance Your pH

We’ve been discussing how to keep your body in peak condition so it will naturally be more resilient to invading pathogens this winter.

One way to achieve this is by focusing on pH, moving away from acidosis and aiming to keep your blood pH at 7.365. To read more about pH and your body click here.

There are many ways to help shift your body away from acidosis and towards alkalinity.

There’s a lot of information about using nutrition  to achieve this.

The key is to reduce foods that create acidity in the body like:

  • sugar

  • processed foods and oils

  • fried foods

  • alcohol

  • dairy

  • meat

  • caffeine

  • grains.

And to increase foods that encourage alkalinity like:

  • all types of vegetables

  • legumes

  • fruits that aren’t so sweet like avocado, coconut,  lemon, sour cherries

  • almonds and seeds

  • healthy oils

Another way to reduce acidosis is by reducing chemicals and toxins in the body.
For example try to limit your intake of:

  • alcohol

  • caffeine

  • sedatives

  • opiates

  • NSAIDs

  • aspirin

But there are other interesting ways to help support your body’s ideal pH that I would like to outline for you.

First  of all – any activity that reduces your stress load, decreases your exposure to toxins and/or gets you to breathe deeper will reduce acidity in the body.

That means that both exercise and meditation will encourage the proper pH. Or try yoga which combines movement with deep breathing.

Sleep is another important and easy way to keep your pH in the proper zone. Keep in mind that sleep disordered breathing (sleep apnea) can increase acidosis in the body.

Another interesting way to reduce acidosis is by stimulating the movement of lymph and blood to remove acidic waste from the body.

Massage is a great way to do this. So is dry brushing – where you brush your skin – often before showering – and stimulate the circulation of both blood and lymph.

One of the most interesting ways to help alkalize your body is to drink water that is alkaline. Regular tap water is often neutral  – with a pH of 7. But remember – we are aiming for slightly alkaline at 7.35.

How can you drink alkaline water? Some water filters alkalize the water for you. Some say you can just add something alkaline – like simple baking soda  – to the water that you regularly drink.

To learn more about a water filter in Israel that provides alkaline water click here (I have no experience with this company but am considering installing their reverse osmosis filter in my house).

To summarize –  here are the top ways to reduce acidosis:

  • Reduce your intake of acid producing foods

  • Increase your intake of alkaline producing foods including alkaline water

  • Reduce your intake of chemicals and toxins

  • Reduce stress

  • Increase the circulation of blood and lymph

There’s one more super cool way to combat acidosis and keep your blood and  immune system super healthy.

I’ll share that with you next week.

Thanks for helping me out
