You haven’t heard from me for a while. That’s because my whole family was sick with covid-19. Some of us were in quarantine for 3 weeks.
Thankfully we are all healed and feeling better and are getting back into life.
It was definitely quite an experience. I would like to share with you some of the lessons I learned from this experience.
Lesson # 1 – Getting covid-19 is not entirely in our control.
I know this may be an obvious point. But it’s an important one to remember. While I do believe that wearing a mask, consistent handwashing, and social distancing can definitely help prevent the transmission, I think it’s important to keep in mind that becoming positive with covid-19 is not always in our control.
Being in the mindset that some things are just bigger than us is helpful not just regarding covid-19 but in life in general. Recognizing what we are responsible for and what is out of our hands is helpful in reducing internal stress in the long run.
Covid-19 was a clear reminder that I’m not running the show. That relieves me of a huge burden.
Lesson #2 – Being in quarantine makes healing more difficult. Accepting help and support from others and seeking out social connection can be super helpful.
This is another relatively obvious point but one that was made quite clear during my illness and quarantine.
Being sick in a room by yourself is not fun. (Ok being sick no matter what isn’t fun) Being isolated from other people can make it even more difficult to heal.
We are social creatures. Being with others helps us feel better. Social contact can also reduce stress and support healing.
My friends and neighbors made a herculean effort to support us through the illness. They cooked, shopped, bought toys for my children, called, and whatsapped. That made a huge difference for me and my family.
And I learned a huge lesson from my rock-star friends and neighbors: just offer support. Bring over the pot of soup, offer to go shopping or whatever it is that you feel you can do.
It will make a huge difference for the one who is in need. And you will probably feel good in the process.
Lesson # 3 If you do get sick – be kind to yourself and support your body’s ability to heal
Here is the list of supplements recommended by many to keep covid19 at bay:
Vitamin D 5000 IU
Vitamin C 1000-5000 mg/day (in divided doses)
Zinc Picolinate 25-50 mg/day
Some people suffer from post covid19 symptoms. It’s almost like mono – each person with a different set of symptoms and a different time frame, though most people do experience fatigue.
Some of the top complaints I’ve encountered for post covid19 patients are:
- Fatigue
- Muscle aches
- Headaches or brain fog
- Loss of sense of smell and/or taste
- Coughing
- Insomnia
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are really great at helping the body recalibrate itself back to health.
I am now receiving clients at my new (and beautiful) clinic in Neve Daniel and continue to see clients in Jerusalem on Sundays and Wednesdays.
To sum up – I’m happy and thankful that I’m feeling better. I plan to continue to integrate the important lessons I’ve learned about relinquishing control and creating social support.
And I am looking forward to offering relief to others still living with the effects of covid 19.
I am offering a special discount for people struggling with post covid 19 symptoms. If you or a friend is suffering from the effects of covid19 – please contact me.
And next week we will continue where we left off and address how YOU can lower inflammation in your body and reduce chronic pain. (to read the chronic pain post click here)
