EFT for Trauma

What exactly is EFT?

  • EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique (or tapping) is a self-applied technique which calms the brain and reduces stress in the body by lowering cortisol.
  • EFT combines  acupressure (by tapping on acupuncture points) with focused work on emotions.
  •  The tapping allows us to let go of strong emotions associated with specific thoughts and memories.
  • EFT is safe to use and easy to learn – and can be used in groups, and on children too.

Research on EFT and Trauma

(titles cited at the bottom of each summary are actually links to the printed studies)

Veterans meeting the clinical criteria for PTSD were randomized to EFT (n = 30) or standard of care wait list.   The EFT intervention consisted of 6-hour-long EFT coaching sessions over a month. After the treatment The EFT subjects had significantly reduced psychological distress and PTSD symptom levels. In addition, 90% of the EFT group no longer met PTSD clinical criteria, compared with 4% in the SOC/WL group.

A very large treatment effect was found for EFT, with a weighted Cohen׳s d = 2.96 (anything over 0.8 is considered effective) for the studies that compared EFT to usual care or a waitlist.  EFT is equally as effective as other evidence-based therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR; 1 study) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT; 1 study).

EFT was compared to supportive interviews and a control. After a single 1 hour EFT session the EFT group showed statistically significant improvements in anxiety (-58.34%, p < 0.05), depression (-49.33%, p < 0.002), and overall severity of symptoms (-50.5%, p < 0.001). The EFT group experienced a significant decrease in cortisol level (-24.39%) as compared with supportive interviews and controls.

Significant differential expression of 6 genes was found ( P < .05) when comparing the expression levels before and after the intervention period in participants receiving EFT. Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms declined significantly in the EFT group (-53%, P < .0001) and participants maintained their gains on follow-up.

Treatment using EFT  in groups used a protocol in which the group facilitator worked with a single client while other participants self-applied EFT. Participants were assessed on 9 specific conditions of psychological distress, physical pain and addictive cravings. Significant reductions were observed in all measures. Participants maintained all gains at 6-month follow-up (P < .02)

While both EFT and Narrative exposure therapy were found to be effective in treating PTSD, treatment with EFT produced greater effects in reducing PTSD, anxiety, and  hyperarousal than Narrative exposure therapy.

I have found my sessions with Batya life-changing. The new awarenesses I have gained from tapping and probing into my past traumas, have released the start of a healing process that is impacting my behavior and relationships. I feel totally at ease with Batya. I feel like I am in caring, capable, healing and non-judgemental hands. Her eyes transmit warmth and understanding which makes it easier for me to open up and share my deepest feelings. Sometimes her intuitive statements are spot on and put into words exactly what I’m thinking or experiencing. To me it feels like she is a messenger of Hashem because of her purity of thought and willingness to help.

EFT Tapping Can:

Release Emotional Blocks

EFT is really effective at clearing emotional blocks - even long standing ones

Transform the Issue at the Root

We work together to get to the root of the problem. . With EFT we aim to uncover the problem, release the stuck emotion connected to it and then transform that stuck emotion into something powerfully positive.

Change Addictive and Self Sabotaging Behaviors

Most addictive behaviors are just a way to manage our fears and anxieties. Once we uncover and work through these emotions - we don't need the addictive behavior and can let it go.

Work Really FAST

Meridian tapping combined with focused thought achieves results with quantum speed. Studies show that it can be 5x faster then CBT. Sometimes the results are so fast that the tapper forgets they even had a problem!
